Her Future at Risk. The Cost of Humanitarian Crises on Women and Girls

The report “Her Future at Risk. The Cost of Humanitarian Crises on Women and Girls” examines how humanitarian crises exacerbate existing gender and generational inequalities, particularly in fragile contexts and protracted crises, highlighting the importance of empowering women and girls in crisis response and recovery.

Drawing data from the ChildFund Alliance World Index 2024, which measures the protection, implementation and violation of women’s and children’s rights, the analysis focuses on eight countries: Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Mali, Mozambique, Niger, Palestine and Ukraine, where we work together with ChildFund Alliance. The report also features firsthand accounts and testimonies from humanitarian workers, activists and women and girls included in our interventions.

A dedicated section on Afghanistan highlights the systemic violations of women’s rights under Taliban rule, presenting our interventions and how we operate in the country. The report concludes with actionable recommendations, stressing the need to address systemic inequalities and integrate women’s and girls’ voices at every stage of humanitarian response, adopting a gender transformative approach to promote long-term recovery and peace.
